"Being faced with the task of establishing an effective Health & Safety policy can be a daunting prospect. In 1997 I began the time consuming business of researching health and safety issues and undertaking the production of a written policy, as required by law of all organisation with five or more employees.
Although reasonably pleased with my initial efforts, I decided to seek professional advice. I wanted to ensure that AMSPAR was doing all it could to provide a safe working environment for its staff. The Safety Consultancy Co can highly recommended by one of the members and in early 1998 we worked together to produce an accurate, informative and useful policy, supported by a comprehensive Health & Safety manual.
A full risk assessment was undertaken and a detailed list of action points documented. This has proved to be extremely useful in identifying areas of our Health and Safety policy which needed improvement. For example, by law we were required to have at least two fully trained First Aiders on the staff, we also needed to institute a detailed schedule of testing for all electrical equipment and all staff needed training and information on manual handling and use of display screen equipment. Mot small businesses need access to specialist advice now that there are so many legislative requirements that must be complied with. I am now confident that ASMPAR is up to date on all these issues."

"Eighteen months ago, each time 'Health and Safety at Work' was mentioned my heart sank, I would think Where do we start? The easy option is to leave it until another day when you have more time but, of course, that day never comes. Our main problem was ignorance of the ever changing Health and Safety Regulations and how far we needed to go to implement them.
Following a talk at one of our Practice Managers' Meetings from a local company called The Safety Consultancy Co, we decided to tackle the problem head on, with their help of course.
Following our first assessment with The Safety Consultancy Co we were provided with a manual containing Health and Safety Documents and Risk Assessments relevant to our Practice. Also in the manual was a well-structured action plan for us to follow. This meant that our work was prioritised in such a way that we could deal with one aspect at a time fully and then continue to manage the changes made.
We have regular reviews with The Safety Consultancy Co because managing Health and Safety is an ongoing process.
In 12 months we have made many changes and now feel far more confident when dealing with Health and Safety issues. We know that The Safety Consultancy Co are just at the other end of the telephone, ready and willing to help us with any queries we may have."
